We boarded the plane at the Naval Base 12 Jan at 2330 and after a long 6 hour flight we arrived in The Azores at (13 Jan) 0930 local time which would be 0530 in South Carolina. The plane ride was nice. We had first class seats and shortly after boarding we were given hot towels and a hot meal. We both enjoyed a pasta dish and shortly after fell asleep. We napped the majority of the flight and tried to get some rest. Upon arrival we expected winds and rain but much to our surprise we have seen sunshine all day with temperatures in the low 60's and breezy. The plane landed and we were taken by bus to the terminal. There, we were greeted by about 20 or more smiling faces that made us feel very welcomed! We have spent the majority of our day touring the base, completing paperwork, and doing the "official" things you have to complete. For now we are in lodging which is like an efficiency apartment. According to housing they will be able to get us in a house by next week, probably 21 Jan..not too bad!We have a great sponsor that is responsible for helping us get settled and she(Naomi) has been awesome. Tonight we are going to a local restaurant for our first Portuguese meal..will let you know how that goes!It is beautiful here from what we have seen! Thanks for all of the thoughts and prayers. It is currently 1720.
